73 Blog Photography Prop Ideas (You’ll Already Own!!)

blog prop ideas, blog props

I love using various blog photography props in my photos. Some you’ll see alot in pretty much most of my photos and then others you’ll see now and again and some I just use as a one off. I feel like props can really make a photo but not everyone can hunt down the goodies and some of you reading this may be looking for more inspiration for new props. So that’s what you’re getting today!! You’ll also probably own most or almost most of these items anyway…

Beauty

Naturally, as a beauty blogger it just so happens that I use a tonne of beauty related items in my blog photos. MAC lipsticks, palettes and anything with cute, pink or quirky packaging will always make its way into my blog photos. Beauty products are so versatile to use as blog props because they can be as big or as small as you like depending what product you choose to use and they are easy to manipulate at different angles etc.

  • Bobby Pins 1
  • Make Up Brushes 2
  • Make Up Products 3
  • Nail Polish 4
  • Fragrance 5
  • Make Up Bags 6
  • Lipsticks 7
  • Make Up Storage (in the background) 8
  • Flannels & Wash Cloths 9

Home

Home props can really make up a blog image. I’m forever buying homeware and love to sneak things I’ve been buying into my blog photos. It adds a new texture and something different to an image. Trays can be added to give an extra touch to an image and soft furnishings such as blankets, throws and rugs can be used in the corner of an image or as a full background. Flowers for props give me life too! If you do decide to use artificial flowers (which is just as good as fresh ones!) make sure your getting ones that look realistic there are so many on offer that look so real now don’t go for the super fake looking ones!

  • Mason Jars
  • Blankets & Throws
  • Mugs
  • Pretty Plates
  • Bowls
  • Trays
  • Trinket Boxes
  • Artificial Flowers
  • Fresh Flowers
  • Vase
  • Potted Plants
  • Succulents
  • Candles
  • Cushions
  • Rugs (faux fur is always a winner!)
  • Pot Pourri
  • Frames
  • Baskets
  • Clear Acrylic Trays
  • Canvas Shopping Bags (ones from places with cool prints!)
  • Small Decor Items
  • Tea Towels (with pretty patterns on)

Craft & Office Supplies & Stationary

office and stationary

I’m a stationary whore. I just love the shit, I can’t get enough of planners, notebooks, stickers, washi tape. It’s no secret that these kinds of props appear all over my blog images. They are often small enough yet so pretty that they can really add something to blog photos! I love placing them in corners and using pegs and other things like such to add pops of colour here and there.

  • Ribbon
  • Washi Tape
  • Notebooks
  • Planners
  • Coloured Card
  • Paperclips
  • Pins
  • Pegs
  • Paper Clips
  • Coloured Pens & Pencils

  • Gift Wrap

Technology

tech

This will probably be the only one which not everyone will already own. I personally love to add my iphone into my blog photos with something on the screen (usually my blog or social media). It’s probably one of my most used props, along with lenses too. You don’t have to go out and buy a lens just to have it for a blog prop though duh, it’s just if you have got it they can be great to use!

  • Camera Lenses
  • Iphones & Other Phones
  • Laptop
  • Ipad
  • Headphones
  • SD cards, external hard drives
  • Camera
  • Polaroid Camera

Fashion

In the above photo, I used a white fluffy cardigan I owned, made sure there was no labels or any seams showing and then I set my products on top of it. Using fluffy items of clothing or knitted clothing or patterns can be a great way to add dimension or texture to you images. Sometimes I’ll just add a piece of clothing off to the corner and other times I’ll add the entire thing and use it as a background!

  • Watches
  • Jewelry
  • Bags
  • Cardigans (use for background texture)
  • Purse
  • Scarves
  • Sunglasses

This has definitely given me a lil bit of inspiration.
I don’t feel like my flat lay game has been my strongest lately, so I’ll definitely have to add some jewellery and bits I never think of adding to photos!

This is so useful, thank you so much for this post! I’ve been struggling with taking photos of my makeup, and in the meantime have been using these rose hair clips that I bought ages ago, but this list is a life saver! I’ve just recently bought a pretty scarf from Primark purely for prop purposes haha!
