The Issues I Have With Blogging At The Moment

Last week I came close to giving up blogging. There is just this pit in my stomach that feels like blogging isn’t the way it used to be. I think we are all somewhat feeling it a little at the moment with the changes happening. I have decided against giving up my blog, I’ve worked too hard to just give it all in for small reasons and I do genuinely love it but right now there really is just some issues I have with blogging that I’m sure many of you will relate to! I thought I’d share them so you guys don’t feel like it’s just you and to hopefully *fingers crossed* my blogging mojo will come back!

1. The Ones That Follow To Unfollow

I cannot tell you how much I dislike these people. It’s incredibly un-genuine and really isn’t going to do you any favors. Why do you do it? We can spot you a mile off too, don’t think we can’t! I’m all for marketing strategies and growing followers, who isn’t?! Let’s do it organically and genuinely people! It really grinds my gears when you work so hard on your Instagram to be followed by all these people, only to be unfollowed by them days later WHY DO YOU DO IT, S T O P IT!

2. The People Who Buy Followers.

This is just plain lazy. Don’t think we don’t see you people either, we do. A blogger suddenly goes from 1000 followers to 10k…erm okay! It really puts me off someone when you know they have bought followers, why do it? What is it going to gain you? Your only conning the people who can’t tell you are doing it. When in reality all those followers you have gained aren’t going to gain you anything when it comes to your blog and don’t think brands don’t know about it either because it’s one of their biggest bug bears and it will put them off ever wanting to work with someone who is too lazy to let their following grow organically like those who had put hours of work and time into taking their photographs.

3. The Bickering

This is one of the main things that’s changed how I feel about blogging in recent days. Those who know me will know how much of a Twitter addict I am. Now I pop on occasionally to reply to any tweets, that’s it. Can I please just say WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT BRANDS DUPING EACHOTHER! If the brands that have been duped are that bothered they will take it up legally and sue the other brands ass and none of that has even been suggested. It’s business, things get duped all the damn time! I went to Aldi the other day and instead of Dr Pepper, they were selling ‘Doctor Peeper’ which is ever so slightly a rather disturbing name but clearly a dupe of Dr Pepper. Big deal. It happens and all this bickering about it is boring as shit because nothing will be done about it, it’s the way it is and so what if a brand is making something available for those who might not be able to afford the real deal, what really of a big deal is it.

4. The Algorithm

Seriously Instagram, c’mon sort your shit out! I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s feeling the negativity towards Instagrams decisions to add functions to make ‘improvements’. Ever heard of the term don’t fix what isn’t broken?! Not only is is an issue for me as a poster it’s an issue for me as someone who wants to see everyone’s photos! I don’t want to see them ranked, just show me them as they are posted I don’t care about the popularity or the likes of them, I followed them so I can see their photos! My own followers aren’t seeing my posts and Instagram in general, is going to shit with the whole spam bot situation right now! Annoyyyyyyyyying!

5. Images Being Stolen / Not Credited

If you are sharing someones image then go ahead but make sure you credit the bloody photo taker. The thing that really grinds my gears is people who post Pinterest images, INCLUDING QUOTES and simply write ‘Pinterest’. No petal, Pinterest didn’t create the image you have just shared! That’s someones artwork, writing or photography. If your going to spend time and post others peoples images then but in the effort to find out who the creator of that image is. Or better yet..make your own!

6. Indirect Tweets

I haven’t been involved in any…I don’t think haha! But nothing annoys me more than bitches sub tweeting other bloggers. What are we, 13? It’s ridiculous! We’re all adults or have the capacity to act like it at least, yet people are still indirecting tweets about people. I saw a tweet saying ‘when you really don’t like a blogger but they keep tweeting you’ it actually really upsets me to see. It’s just plain nasty. If you really must say something about another blogger, say it to them…privately! The entire world does not need to know about a minuscule issue you have with another blogger. There is lots of us and someone who really admires you and loves your blog might be reading that thinking it’s about them. It’s really not needed and it’s just mean and childish behavior.

7. “The Blogging Community Is Too Saturated”

No, it isn’t. Your mind is too saturated worrying about the whole blogging community being saturated. The blogging community will never be too saturated. Sure, there might be a few less blogging opportunities but let’s remember why we started our blogs! We are allowed to celebrate other people’s achievements too you know! We aren’t all here spending all of our free time pouring our hearts into our posts in the hope we get free stuff..well I’m not anways haha! How on earth can a hobby we all have in common become too saturated?! I like knitting, if 300 people around the world start knitting will this make it too saturated?! WHAT EVEN IS TOO SATURATED? It’s stupid and not true! There is enough room for everyone with endless opportunities to meet and connect with other people and write our own content. Stop trying to shove people out we should be inviting into this cool dynamic we all have shaped and created as influencers and writers!

8. It’s Becoming More And More About Numbers

Naturally so too with the way things are right now with Instagram. This morning I woke up to having lost 50 followers. It’s frustrating and sometimes I feel like throwing my phone at the wall. You upload a photo to Instagram and bam, people unfollow! It’s hard not to focus on numbers when you don’t understand why you’re losing them when you’re working so hard! I try to ignore the loss of follower on Instagram but I just cannot help it and I’m sure many bloggers out there are the same as me!

Sorry for the rather negative ranty post today guys but I’m sure some of you will relate to these points and on the plus side, I’m feeling much better about blogging now that I have this huge weight lifted off me I feel like I am ready to be back from my short break and get things going again!

What’s annoying you about blogging at the moment?

I love this post. I went through the same thing the other week.
I sat and wrote a post explaining why I was going to stop blogging, but then as it came to uploading it, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I have worked hard on my blog and more importantly I love doing it. I just want it to be fun for me like it used to be.
I have taken a step back for a while which is why my social media accounts have been disabled, not I can focus on my blog and my content and I can stop worrying about the numbers. The fun does seem to be coming back for me now!

I agree with everything you’ve said. The follow unfollow needs to stop! It’s driving me insane! I too get sick of hearing that the blogging community is over saturated as for a newbie like me it’s really off putting to hear, so it’s really welcoming to hear someone share a more positive view. This post could not have come at a better time for my current mood! Of course I totally agree with everything you’ve said. I’m too intimidated to use Twitter properly because it seems a bit clique-ey, I might be totally wrong though!

Doctor Peeper is still killing me! hahaha xx

Oh wow, I can relate to basically ALL of your points. Especially the follow/unfollow game – I hate it!! And the numbers thing – I recently unfollowed a load of instagram accounts that I was no longer enjoying. I’d rather follow accounts I genuinely love. But in doing so I lost nearly 100 followers in less than 48 hours and I was destroyed to be honest. I’ve slowly managed to grow my numbers back up but it’s a slow game and it really shook me. Even though numbers shouldn’t matter, they do. We work damn hard at blogging, of course the numbers matter!

Your right in everything you are saying here lovely and it’s a hard battle to win! I’m sure even the huge bloggers feel the strain right now too!

Great post! I’ve been blogging as a hobby for almost 5 years and since I decided to take it more seriously I have tried to step up my social media presence and it is exhausting! I’ve also noticed that my numbers go up and down so much on Instagram but I refuse to ever buy followers, I want to build a community but it will happen organically as you have said. Thanks for your honesty in this post, I do not believe that it is too saturated either, every perspective is unique and if we use others ideas for inspiration and not to copy than we will always have something new to share with others. All the best!

This is so good! I agree with all of them. So many people have forgotten that blogging is about sharing what you love, not competition and popularity contests.

Definitely relate to this post so much! As a blogger who doesn’t get a lot of reads, followers, or brand deals, it’s hard to not compare and feel bad about myself because I’m not achieving as much as others. I’ve come really close to giving up multiple times because of it. The whole follow/unfollow thing is the one that makes me the most angry though since I am trying to build up my following as a blogger but can never seem to because of these stupid games people play! Ugh – I honestly do love blogging, but it’s so hard some times! 🙁
