My Top Contouring & Highlighting Products

I don’t contour every day, I wouldn’t have the time! However, if I’m going out on a weekend during the day I’ll often light contour and then if I’m going for a night out I go the whole way! I have a round face with lil’ chubby hamster cheeks and when I go out…I prefer not to look 12 years old! Contouring used to confuse the crap out of me but I’ve really got the hang of it and I have certain products I’ll always use in my contouring routine so I thought I’d share those with you!

Seriously, I am addicted to the glow! I love how it brightens up my face and really makes a difference to your complexion. I have some varying highlights to share with you as I don’t always like to go crazy on the glow and look for a more subtle highlight but other times I love to go all the way!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer | A cult favourite loved by many of us! I think pretty much every makeup lover will have tried this gem at some point in their lives! How could you not for the £4 pricetag! I use the medium shade as a normal everyday concealer to cover up my blemishes and I use the lightest to highlight my face! It’s super creamy and really easy to blend but it is pretty prone to creasing under the eyes so make sure to set it!

LA Girl Pro Concealer | There are so many shades in this concealer range and I know lots of people who use the dark ones as a cream contour! I’m yet to try that but it’s next on my list! I use this to highlight all of the areas on my face and usually I’ll blend it out with a sponge! It blends really well and is another affordable highlighting product!

Colourpop Super Shock Highlight | Lunch Money | Ohhhhhhhhh Colourpop, how I adore your highlighters! They are the weirdest formulation I have ever tried in a product! They are soft, but solid and wet but they aren’t! It’s so strange but I either apply with my finger or a brush and it gives a blinding pearly highlight! Colourpop are such an affordable brand yet they are probably one of my favourites, if only I didn’t get slapped with customs when I order from them!

Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder | Afterglow | If you are looking for a much more subtle every day highlight this Milani beauty will be your go to gem! There are a few shades in this range and it gives my skin such a natural healthy glow! Beautifully packaged as always, I can never fault Milani for their beautiful packaging and super easy to pick up and apply the product to my face. I prefer my highlight to be abit stronger than one stroke of this but if I apply this twice it gives me just the right amount!

Finding the perfect contour shade for skin that is really pale is so difficult! They either have too much of an ash tone to them or they are seriously orange but I’ve finally found a bunch that I repurchase over and over again for my contour shades.

Illamasqua Cream Pigment | Hollow | This was my second ever contour product I was introduced to when the world of highlight and contouring was a pretty new thing. It was all the rage at the time and this product is still my favourite product to contour with! I can’t fault it! It’s the perfect amount of ashy tones and coolness to it and it’s so easy to work with. I apply with my finger and blend with a sponge or a brush from the list before and it doesn’t budge or fade. A little higher on the pricing of other products mentioned in this post but one that is totally worth a mention! Plus, you only ever need a tiny bit because it’s incredibly pigmented!

Nyx Powder Blush | Taupe

This really wouldn’t work for someone who doesn’t have pale skin as it is intended as a blusher. For those of you who struggle to find the perfect contour for pale skin this is my number one recommendation always! It’s the perfect shade with no orange tones and not too ashy it really works to shape the cheekbones!

Contour and highlight palettes are quite the lifesaver really! You have everything you would need all in one place and you aren’t having to search your stash to find what you need! Let me know in the comments if you are more drawn to singles or palettes!

AHB Cosmetics Highlight & Strobe Kit* | I’ve done a whole feature separate to this on my blog already which you can find here but I love it so much it is well worth another mention! With 6 different products all aimed to bringing a beautiful highlight to your face it’s the perfect palette! Four highlights and two baked blushes it gives me everything I want!

Makeup Forever Pro Sculpting Face PaletteThis is the product of dreams! It’s got everything you could possibly need and more! Features a white/concealer shade, contour, highlight/shimmer and a beautiful coral cream blush. This is all you need to sculpt that face of yours! The formula is so creamy and the product has lasted me ages in the pans, I know for sure this will be repurchased when I run out.

MUFE Contour & Highlight Palette Swatches

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit | Gleam | I live for this palette! Featuring four drop dead beautiful highlighters that seriously are blinding and that take very little effort at all is totally worth the price to me! The golden shade is the shade I used the least in this palette (scroll up to the top for swatches) but the other three are heavily used on the daily!

Sleek Cream Contour Kit | Light | Props to sleek for giving you the biggest mirror ever in this palette! I’ve become a big fan of cream products when it comes to a highlight and contour because my face just doesn’t appreciate much powder on it! You get three cream highlight shades (no shimmer) and three contour shades. One of the shades in this palette in the contour section is *slightly* too orange but the rest are absolutely brilliant! (swatches above!)

When I first started out learning about contouring and highlighting I was literally clueless when it came to what brushes would do the job the best for me! Over time I learnt and discovered new ones to add to my routine so below you will see my top most used!

Blank Canvas | F31 | This dense flat top brush is so useful for blending down that jawline and into the hairline so you don’t have that dreaded contrast between your hair and your contour!

Blank Canvas | F33 | This brush literally carves out your cheek bones with a curved brush head that’s quite stiff and dense it distributes product perfectly! It makes it so easy to contour around the edges of the face and on your cheeks.

Real Techniques | Sculpting Brush | I’ve had this brush for the longest time now and it’s still as good as the day I got it! I love this with cream and powder products and it’s dense bristles gives such a good distribution of colour without your face going all crazy and patchy!

Crown | C520 | This brush is identical to the F33 from Blank Canvas except its a little bit bigger and the bristles are a little shorter giving an even stiffer brush head giving you more precise application.

Sigma | F05 | Sigma deserve way more recognition for their palettes! They never fail to impress me and this contour is probably my ultimate favourite if I could only choose one! It’s smaller than a standard fluffy brush but creates those shadows all over your face perfectly (doesn’t work so well for my nose though!).

Blank Canvas | F06 | Beautifully designed with a metallic pink handle and black and white hairs on the brush not only is it pretty but it’s efficient too. It’s the fluffiest out of them all and it’s an oval shaped domed brush that buffs out contour perfectly!

Cheap Ebay Fan Brush | This has to be the best £2 purchase I’ve ever made! I never thought I’d get on with a fan brush but wanted to try it when everyone was raving about it! Turns out its my favourite method to apply highlighter to my cheekbones! Its so fluffy yet thin so it coats product onto the brush so easily and applies it to the face with ease!

AHB Cosmetics Highlight Brush | Whilst this brush looks like a funny shape and size to be highlighting with it is perfect! Amazing at applying highlight all over the face and the bristles are super soft too!

Beau Belle Shader | I think this is actually an eyeshadow brush but I use this to apply highlight to the inner corners of my eyes and down my nose! It’s the perfect size and shape to apply to my cupids bow too! A little too small for your cheekbones though!

Sigma | F03 | This is THE dream brush for highlighting! It can do it all! Cheekbones, down the nose, cupids bow, chin, brow, inner eyes ANYWHERE it does exactly what I want it to every single time! It’s a slim domed brush which means it get in all the nooks and crannies of where you want it!

Look Good Feel Better | Flawless Complexion Sponge | I think sponges are pretty much everyone’s favourite choice when it comes to blending out a cream product and I can’t blame them! This is such a perfect sponge and using it damp just flawlessly blends out a cream contour or highlight! It’s cruelty free too!

I hope that’s given a good insight to some products you might love for yourself when it comes to contouring and highlighting! Hopefully, it’s shed some light on the process and products a little for those who are new to it too! Comment below what your favourite contour and highlighting product is!

Lunch Money is gorgeouuuuus! As well as the Gleam palette! I only have Sun Dipped and Sweets and I’m so sad that I wasn’t able to buy the others when they were in stock 🙁
Need to try some of the brushes that you talked about!
